Handmade chainmail of jump rings in two tones with commandment embedded in morse code.
By Spoon Jackson
Spoon has been serving a life without possibility of parole sentence since 1978 for murder. We exchanged two letters. Here are the highlights.
Nothing human is alien to anyone, even murder.
You are trying to understand "Do not murder" on a deeper level. I agree the best way to understand something is from a personal story.
I am from Barstow, California. My mom was Baptist. Although I was made to go to church when I was young, I never believed in it.
I dont think anyone can justify "killing" or "murder" - both are not cool when done by an individual or state or government or religion. Who are they to judge? Even if the 10 commandments did not exists I would still believe it is not ok to murder. There are people in here that think it is ok. I never set out to kill anyone. Sadly I did and I can't bring them back.
My life after taking a life has been full of remorse, suffering, sadness and growth.
What I would tell people is to know thyself, grow and do arts or whatever helps you understand how you want to be treated and how to treat others. I think it the duty of real artists and educators to do that and find ways to inspire. I think people inherently want peace and if they find their true path in life they will be fine.
